DescriptionThis postcard has a photograph on the front showing Bishop Henry Grey Graham in a formal studio pose, wearing his Bishop's robes and holding his hat; Bishop Graham was born on 8th March 1874, a son of the manse; he was licensed as a minister of the Church of Scotland in March 1897 and was elected parish minister of Avondale in Lanarkshire in 1901; he was received into the Catholic Church in 1903 and was ordained priest in Rome on 22nd December 1906; in 1917, the Holy Father chose Father Graham as an auxiliary bishop in support of Archbishop Smith of the Diocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh and he was elected to the Titular See of Tipasa in Numidia and consecrated in Edinburgh on 16th November 1917; he came home to Glasgow in 1930 after carrying the burden of administering the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh for 13 years and became parish priest of Holy Cross Church in Glasgow; he died in Glasgow on 5th December 1959, aged 85; full details of Bishop Graham's life can be found on pp 334 to 337 of The Catholic Directory for 1960.
