DescriptionThis press cutting from "Glasgow Illustrated" Vol. 15, No. 114, September 1971 shows a photograph of Archbishop Scanlan standing in formal pose, looking down to his left, dressed in his Archbishop's attire and wearing a pectoral crucifix, with a curtain in the background. Archbishop Scanlan was born in Glasgow on 24th January 1899 and was ordained in Westminster on 29th June 1929; he was consecrated by Archbishop Godfrey on 20th June 1946 and translated to Motherwell in 1955. Archbishop Scanlan retired on 23rd April 1974 and died in London on 25th March 1976. Full details of Archbishop Scanlan's life can be found on pp 370 to 377 in the Catholic Directory for 1977.
