Description | This postcard bears a photograph on the front, stating "St Mary's RC Church (Interior), Chapeltown"; the view shows the interior of St Mary's Church, with two rows of pews and a central aisle leading to the altar; St Mary's Church was rebuilt in 1897 and re-named Our Lady of Perpetual Succour in 1899; the entries in The Catholic Directory for 1897 and 1898 for Chapeltown still state the church's name as St Mary's and the entry for 1897 for Chapeltown states "A new church is being built in this Mission, and funds are being raised to meet the expenses."; [this interior is presumably that of the rebuilt church]; handwritten notes on the back of this postcard indicate that it is dated 27th June 1968 and sent from a John Russell from Braes of Glenlivet to a Father Doyle. |
