TitleCorrespondence: St Andrew's Institute, Barnet
Date1905-1913
LevelFile
DescriptionThe correspondence relates mainly to the closure of St Andrew's Institute and the sale of its property. The Institute was headed at this time by Fr Francis Spink (1858-1924) who had been educated and ordained there himself in 1883. In 1900 he succeeded Fr George Bampfield as Superior. During his tenure, Fr Spink successfully defended himself on appeal against an action for libel brought against him by an apostate former member of the Institute. Debt forced the closure and sale of the Institute in 1912, and the file contains details about the mortgages and other liabilities carried by the Institute, the disposal of the Institute's printing press and library, and discussions about the future for staff at the Institute.
