Description
Site plan of the new Roman Catholic Church of St Edmund's, Twickenham, produced for the Very Rev. L J Corbett, SSE. The plan was produced by Francis Xavier Velarde (1897 – 1960), a Liverpool based architect who specialised in churches, mainly in the north-west of England and almost exclusively Catholic. Velarde died on 28 December 1960, but the building project was carried forward for the F.X. Velarde Partnership by Richard O’Mahony. The foundation stone was laid on 19 May 1962 and the church opened on 15 June the following year. It was consecrated on 19 September 1972.
The plan shows property that was owned by the Society of St Edmund's at the time, property that was to be demolished, lines of surface water and drains, and the outline of the existing church (later the church hall) and school.
