DateFebruary 1976-December 1979

DescriptionThe file deals mainly with the repurposing of the former St Joseph's School, Lambs Passage, Bunhill Row. This included proposals to use it in the first instance as a language school; a summer hostel for Pax Christi students and, longer term, as a hostel for the homeless; a Centre for the Portuguese Fathers; a studio for an artists' collective; a Rudolf Steiner school; a day school for Seventh Day Adventists; housing for ex-offenders by St Martin of Tours House; long term accommodation for the Catholic Herald offices. Much of the correspondence deals with negotiations over the lease granted to the latter.

The file contains numerous technical and legal documents, including formal surveys and assessments of St Joseph's School by Cluttons Chartered Surveyors and Frank Durrant, Westmore & Reeves, Chartered Surveyors, with extracts from the Ordnance Survey map of the area. There are also copies of documents and correspondence detailing St Joseph's School' status as part of the St Mary Moorfields Trust, established in 1901. There is a detailed drawing of the entrance to the St Joseph's School playground, and a copy of an application for change of use of the property under the Town and Country Planning Act 1971.
